Some people would prefer to forget what happened on this day in 2001. Some would like to think that the longer it's been since another attack on America, the safer we are.
I would like to think that, too.
I miss a world where I wasn't aware that somewhere, fanatical jihadist bastards were trying to blow up a building, strap a suicide belt around a child, car bomb an American soldier, torture a journalist, and hold hostage eveything we used to assume was safe.
If I could wish away 9/11, I would. Wouldn't we all.
But, I realize the truth about what has happened to my world and it fills me more with anger than with fear.
...No matter when we get Bin Laden
...No matter when the "War on Terror" is ever won
...No matter which generation solves this problem...
- one thing is certain: like the apple Eve ate in the Garden of Eden, a certain innocence will always be lost and there is no putting back what we know about some people and what their warped perception of religion and their God's wishes can do to everyone else.
