On this morning's show, we were talking about "SWORDS". The acronym stands for: "special weapons observation remote reconnaissance direct action system" and our forces in Iraq have recently deployed them.
SWORDS are based on those bomb disabling robots SWAT teams use except SWORDS are armed with 249 machine guns.
R2D2 with an bad attitude.
SWORDS are operated remotely by soldiers and if for some reason something goes awry, there's even a "kill switch" to turn off the SWORD.
That struck me funny. A "kill switch" on something designed to kill.
Seems to me if something goes wrong with a SWORD and it's about to mow down some of our own guys or innocent Iraqi citizens, you'd want something on it called a "live switch" as in "let them live."
Maybe I think about things too much.
